Apps to the Rescue
There are a range of apps that can assist in your food challenge, with functions you can use according to your preferences. Below are some suggestions:
NoWaste – Food Inventory List: Use this app to inventory your pantry and fridge, input expiry dates and receive reminders. There are a few versions to this type of app (Pantry Check – Grocery List; KitchenPal: Pantry + Recipes), and some have a feature that suggests recipes based on what you have logged in the app.
Yummly Recipes & Cooking Tools: This app suggests recipes based on your preferences and what you are interested in. It’s great for improving your experience in the kitchen and meal planning.
Plan to Eat is a fancier app that allows you to meal plan, access cookbook recipes, create ingredient lists for grocery shopping, access step-by-step instructions and more. MealBoard – Meal Planner and Meal Planner – Food Planner each combine features of the apps listed above. They enable inventory, meal planning, recipes imports and populate shopping lists based on these inputs.
These may take a little extra time initially but, if used regularly, they will save you time and money in the long run. Not to mention, reduce household food waste! If you use another app and think others should give it a try, please let us know and we will add it to the list.
